WORKSHOPS for ages 10-100, with Linda Mosley
Whisking Matcha Workshop — One session
This two-hour session is an enjoyable way to learn how to prepare matcha tea with a bamboo whisk. Participants will take turns making tea for each other after a brief introduction to Chado, Japanese tea ceremony, and the characteristics that make a good tea bowl. Each workshop is tailored to the age and interests of the participants. Matcha and Japanese confections are included. The fee varies based on location and number of participants. Tea-related Pottery Lesson
In one 3-hour lesson you may choose to make a tea bowl (chawan), small plates for tea sweets (kozara), or lid-rests (futaoki) with hand-building methods (not the potter’s wheel). Linda will describe the essential characteristics of each object and demonstrate the traditional Japanese methods for making them. For instance, chawan have been made since the 16th century with great attention paid to a harmonious interplay of curve, volume, rim and foot as well as how it feels in the hands.
Class size is one to four people. See photo gallery below.
The lesson fee includes clay and kiln firing. Allow at least one month for for completion.
