Linda Sōri 宗利 Mosley

In 1983, Linda studied Chado for one year with Mrs. Minnie Somi Kubose in Chicago, Illinois. In 2009, she began studying with Dr. Sheila Fling and assisting with Japanese tea ceremony presentations in the Austin metro area. In 2019, she became a certified instructor and began giving tea lessons. In 2023, with the recommendation of Sheila Fling, Linda was given the rank of Sennin koushi, 2nd degree instructor and the chamei (tea name), Sōri 宗利, by the Urasenke Chado Tankokai Foundation in Kyoto, Japan.

Linda grew up in a unique small country town in central Illinois. She discovered Japanese Arts in undergraduate school at the University of Illinois. As a ceramic art “major” she was particularly interested in Japanese ceramics used in the Japanese tea ceremony. In 1975, she received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics degree and has taught pottery from primary to college levels and maintained a home studio since then.
